Abu Dhabi, the capital of UAE, is an impressively modern metropolis, with towering buildings and a bewildering array of shopping malls to choose from. The city is also remarkably green, with several parks and open spaces dotted around. Visit the sixth largest mosque in the world, Sheikh Zayed Mosque, a beautiful white structure with minarets and domes roofs, to remind yourself of just where you are.
Dubai is Abu Dhabi's glitzy cousin, with great shopping and shiny buildings. Watch the Dubai Fountain, the world's largest dancing fountain, shoot water up to 150m in the air, or admire the famous Palm Islands, artificial islands created off the coast of Dubai in the shape of palm leaves. If you are craving tradition, head to the Bastakiya District and explore some of the Arabic cafes and art galleries on offer.
Should you wish to escape the cities, both Abu Dhabi and Dubai offer the opportunity to head into the desert surrounding the states and take a camel ride or experience a thrilling four wheel drive ride amongst the dunes.
