Itinerary :

Day 1 Welcome to Vienna

On arrival at Vienna Airport, your airport transfer leaves for your hotel at 09:00, 11:00, 13:00 & 15:00. Vienna is famous for its delicious coffees and pastries so, after checking in, why not stroll to a local café? Later, join your Tour Director for a warm and friendly Welcome Reception and an opportunity to mingle and get to know each other over a pleasant evening of dinner and wine.

Day 2 Stately Vienna & the Habsburgs

The next morning, join a local expert for a private tour of Maria Theresa's Schönbrunn Palace and formal gardens. Continue sightseeing around the famous ring road, built along the lines of the old city walls. After seeing the Opera House, the Hofburg Imperial Residence and Parliament Building, the afternoon is at leisure.

Day 3 Zagreb’s Twin Towns

Head through Styria's forested mountains, past Graz and over the Slovenian border to reach the 700-year-old university town of Maribor. Follow the Drava River to Croatia and its capital, Zagreb. On your sightseeing, see Roosevelt Square, the attractive facades of Ban Josip Jelacic Square, the Cathedral and in the medieval Upper Town, the Presidential Palace, Stone Gate, St. Mark's Church and the Tower of Lotrščak.

Day 4 On to the Crystal blue-green Lakes of Plitvice

Enjoy free time this morning. Maybe take an optional trip to the home of the late Marshall Tito in Kumrovec? Then depart for your rustic hotel located right inside the UNESCO listed Plitvice Lakes National Park.

Day 5 To Ancient Trogir and Split

Tour the Plitvice Lakes, a scenic wonderland of 16 lakes flanked by thundering waterfalls and primeval forest. Visit Korana Canyon's 230 foot high falls and Tomicevo Pogledalo for views over the park. Head down the coast to visit Trogir. Founded by the Greeks in 400BC but now renowned for its fine cathedral and Renaissance Cipiko Palace. Continue to the historic port of Split.

Day 6 Diocletian’s Palace and to Dine-Around in Dubrovnik

Your local expert leads you through the labyrinth of streets that lie within Emperor Diocletian's former palace. See St. Duje's, (originally Diocletian's Mausoleum), the Temple of Jupiter (today, a baptistery) and the Golden Gate. Venture into the basement rooms thought to have housed his slaves. Now drive by sparkling deep blue seas and the rocky islands of the Dalmatian coast to Dubrovnik. Choose from a selection of local restaurants for your DINE-AROUND tonight.

Day 7 Dubrovnik, Pearl of the Adriatic

Day 8 Scenic Drive to Kotor and Tirana

Day 9 Drive to Ohrid, one of Europe's best kept Secrets

Straddling the Macedonian border, Lake Ohrid forms a bowl in the middle of surrounding mountains, its shores dotted with monasteries and villages. Stay in the pretty lakeside resort town of Ohrid where a local expert shows you the narrow streets of the Old Town. As twilight falls, the cafe-lined promenades are perfect for a summer evening stroll.

Day 10 To Skopje and Sofia

Day 11 Highlights of Sofia

In the morning, sightseeing with a local expert takes in the St. Sofia Church across the square from the golden domed St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the archaeological complex, dominated by the church of St. George Rotonda. Day 12 On to the Old Bulgarian Capital of Veliko Turnovo

Cross the Balkan Mountains to the old capital city of Veliko Turnovo. Join your local expert for a stroll along Gurko Street with its cascade of restored old houses. Enjoy unparalleled views down to the Monument of the Assens - symbol of the city. A highlight is the visit to the Tsarevets Fortress, housing a host of archeological remains and a reminder of the town's former imperial status. Day 13 The Road to Istanbul

Day 14 Istanbul & the Ottomans

Next morning, tour the highlights of Istanbul, including St. Sophia and a visit to the famous Blue Mosque. Visit Topkapi Palace, former seat of the Ottoman Emperors, to admire the treasures of the Sultans, before finishing at the 4,000 shops, tea houses and cafés of the Grand Bazaar. But first a quick lesson from your local expert on how to beat the stallholders at their own game! Learn the ancient ritual of haggling - the technique, the pitfalls and how much to pay! Your amazing journey culminates at a fantastic Celebration Dinner.
